More Information
The ACT is an alternative test to the SAT. It is more difficult to find testing centers for this test outside the United States. Some universities will only accept SAT scores, but a number (especially in the West and Midwest) will accept either SAT or ACT scores.
The ACT is given five times a year.
The ACT is a two-hour and fifty-five-minute test consisting of four sections:
Subject | No. of Questions | Time Given |
English | 75 questions | 45 minutes |
Math | 60 questions | 60 minutes |
Reading | 40 questions | 35 minutes |
Science | 40 questions | 35 minutes |
Students receive separate scores for each subject, as well as a composite score which is the average of the four scores. Each score is on a scale from 1 to 36, with 36 being the best possible score. Currently, the average composite score is approximately 20.5.
The registration fee is $23, plus $15 for international students.
To obtain a registration packet in the United States, call 319-337-1270 between 8 am 8 pm (central time) Mon-Fri.
If you are outside the United States, use the online comment form on www.act.org or call 319-337-1448.
