WPA document repair

Hi everyone,

We have, here in the Missouri State Archives, a number of older documents
that have had thin tissue adhered to both sides. Some of them also have
thicker paper reinforcements in areas of weakness and loss. Both appear to
have been adhered with some sort of starch paste.

We believe that these repairs were done by the Works Progress Administration
(WPA) in the 1930's. What I am looking for are any sources of information
on this project, such as what kind of training or background the workers had
before being allowed to treat these documents.

I appreciate any and all information or leads to where I might find the
information.

Thanks in advance,

Sandy Hempe
