MASON CITY - Have a question about Mason City history? Call Terry Harrison.
As the historian/archivist at the Mason City Public Library, Harrison
presides over a treasure trove of historical archives, including 100,000
photographs of Mason City, newspapers dating back to the 1850s and rare
books, like an autographed copy of Charles Lindbergh?s autobiography.
The Sedalia, Mo., native, who has degrees in classical archeology and
American history, took over this ?local history project? in 1991 at the
urging of his friend and Mason City library director Andy Alexander.
?This originally started out as four months worth of work,? Harrison said.
?Then they kept asking me to stay around for another couple months and then
another.?
Alexander said under Harrison?s tutelage, the ?local history project? has
grown into a true archive.
?He?s done an excellent job building it, getting it organized and recruiting
volunteers to help with various projects,? Alexander said.
