Re: retention of awards and plaques

Let me offer another idea. Peter is absolutely right about the history that
goes with awards. But, they are bulky as are trophies. Look carefully at
all of them, and you may find that the actual plaque with the words on it is
a piece of metal attached to wood, or a plate attached to a trophy (which in
my view only compete with each other for ugliness). You might consider
detaching the plate from its backing and just keep that.

Just a thought.

Thanks,

Gerry

I am truly surprised by some of the answers provided this query, especially
the one that said to "photocopy the award and then throw the award away".
I would imagine that there would be some blank wall space available such
that all awards could be displayed or a rotating exhibit established. Yes I
know that they can be bulky and can also be a nuisance, but really to just
toss them.

Sorry folks they do document an aspect of an organization's history. Don't
forget that there were probably press releases, news stories and
photographs associated with the presentation of the plaque. Now suppose
that you are researching presentation plaques , all you have are
photographs(maybe) (don't really show the detail of the plaque, but rather
document the people), news stories/press releases (no dimensions, no copy
of the plaque's text, etc.) or some oral history, but not the actual
plaques themselves -- how valid would your research be?

Keep the durn things. Use them to attract people to the archives.
