Re: 16" LPs (Friday Musings)

Your dialogues started me musing.

If you want to feel old, return to those shining days of yesteryear when
all we had was shellac 78s and an occasional vinyl 78. Still have some
stored in the hall. Even used cactus needles with early crystal pickups.
Supposed to spare the surface and reduce hiss. So much for electronic
aids and filters.

Columbia opened a new world with the LPs in 49. Worked for the original
Sam Goody in the Big Apple while going to school. Ancient history, but
what an experience! Still have a reasonable LP collection.

Still have my first ten watt monaural amplifier. Tubes are gaseous and
not available. Have an old Rek-O-Cut two speed turntable (33 & 78) that
is stored somewhere in the attic.

Advent of tape was a another dimension. How much further could we go?
And we did.

CDs another dimension.

Thought- Magnetic fields can alter, waiting on final returns on CDs,
but grooves remain constant.

Forgive my Friday afternoon wanderings. Been a long day.

Bill
