Dirty Blonde (play with an archivist character)
I had the good fortune to see "Dirty Blonde", a play about Mae West. One of
the characters is a film archivist at the New York Public Library. The
character is shy and socially awkward, and a wonderful person. Some scenes
take place in the archives' reading room.
The playwright (Claudia Schear) used archival sources in creating the play,
and the program thanks a number of repositories "for their patience and
enthusiasm."
The play is a hoot. If you have a chance, see it at the New York Theatre
Workshop, 79 East 4th Street, NYC.
WARNING: This play is about sex. It is replete with double entendres and
"vulgar" language. It is extremely suitable for teenagers.
