Re: Toledo Blade editorial

Especially scary when the web becomes a source for documents
that people rely on perhaps too much. I know of a project, e.g.,
to put issues of a historic (& non-copyrighted) newspaper on the web.
This has exciting potential, but in order to do this, the issues were
OCR-scanned, and then all the formatting was stripped out, with the result
that the articles look as though they had been typed in by hand. I wonder
about the potential for mistakes -- even without intentional distortion,
could there have been accidental editing errors? How can we ever tell,
since access to the originals is so hard to arrange?
