PROCESSING ARCHIVIST

Clemson University Libraries seek a processing archivist who, under the
direction and supervision of the Head of Special Collections, will arrange
and describe archival collections in the Special Collections backlog
including material from the University Archives as well as manuscript
collections; prepare finding aids and workforms for bibliographic
databases; and supervise student assistants. Reference duties in the
Special Collections Reading Room will be allocated, including some evening
and possible weekend hours. Other duties may be assigned as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:   **Required: ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent, training
and/or experience in archival management.  **Highly desirable: Advanced
degree in history, experience preparing finding aids and using the MARC
format, familiarity with computer use, ability to work as a member of a
team, written and oral communication skills, ability to lift 30-40 pounds.

LIBRARY:  The Clemson University Libraries have a staff of 31 librarians
and 71 support staff.  The Special Collections Unit has 5 librarians and 4
support staff and is strongly service-oriented. The Libraries are fully
networked, linking employees with electronic mail and calendar systems, the
campus network, and the Internet. See our web site at

CAMPUS AND COMMUNITY: Clemson University, South Carolina's technologically
oriented land grant institution, has approximately 17,000 students. It is
located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, 30 miles from
Greenville, SC, and within two hours driving time of Charlotte, NC, or

SALARY & BENEFITS: $28,000 minimum. Faculty status, 12-month tenure track
position, state or TIAA-CREF and other retirement plans available, various
medical plans, dental plan. 18 days annual leave, 15 days sick leave, 11
paid holidays, and liberal professional development leave. The university
offers up to 4 credit hours free to employees per semester.
