Archival Specialist I - Special Collections
400 S. State Street, Chicago, Illinois

Responsibilities: Under general supervision, organize, coordinate and
maintain the Collections and Archives of Harold Washington, Chicago's first
African-American mayor.  Evaluate and appraise materials such as records,
manuscripts, photographs, books, maps and other written materials acquired
by the Chicago Public Library's Special Collections Division.  Determine
what material is to be preserved for historical purposes.  Prepare and
organize materials for storage.  Classify, catalog and prepare inventory
listing of collected contents and write introduction and descriptive
archival guides.  Function as liaison to historical societies for special
exhibitions, community displays, neighborhood fairs and private showings.
Answer inquiries from library patrons and private agencies regarding
archival collection.  Attend meetings, workshops and training courses.

Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a
Master's degree in a related field including course work in archival
administration, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Entry Salary:  $31,356/year, plus excellent benefits.
