AASLH Awards for 2000

Do you know of an outstanding contribution to our knowledge of
state and local history in Maine? If so, this is the time to submit
nominations for the American Association of State and Local History
Awards Program, which recognizes excellence in the collection,
preservation, and interpretation of state and local history.

Last year, the Pejepscot Historical Society in Brunswick received
an AASLH award for the exhibit "Sail Away."

AASLH awards may be given to any type of historical organization,
specialized subject society (oral history, genealogy, folklore,
archaeology, etc.) individual, or other organization that has made
significant contributions to the understanding of local history. The
awards may be given for general excellence, a particular project, an
individual's work, a book, museum exhibit, or a preservation or
     restoration project.

Award nominations must be submitted on a nomination form by April
     1, 2000 to:

        Sheila McDonald
        Maine AASLH Awards Chair
        Bureau of Parks and Lands
        Station 22
        Augusta, Maine 04333

Forms are available from Sheila McDonald.

Please call Sheila McDonald (287-4975) or write
(sheila.mcdonald@state.me.us) for more information or to receive a
     nomination form.
