SOHA Scholarships
SOUTHWEST ORAL HISTORY ASSOCIATION
Scholarships to 2000 Meeting in Long Beach, California
The Southwest Oral History Association is offering two scholarships
to enable individuals interested in oral history to attend its annual
meeting, which will be held April 28-30, 2000, at the WestCoast Hotel in
Long Beach, California. The weekend-long conference will include
beginning and advanced workshops, panel presentations, a luncheon, and a
plenary session.
Students, teachers, independent oral historians, and individuals
affiliated with nonprofit organizations are encouraged to apply for
scholarships. Preference will be given to applicants from the SOHA
region, which includes Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, and Southern
California, although others are welcome to apply.
How to apply
To be considered for a scholarship, applicants must submit an
application letter and résumé to SOHA's Scholarships and Grants
Committee. The letter should include: (1) background on the
applicant's interest in oral history, and an explanation of how the
scholarship will advance the applicant's goals in the field of oral
history; (2) a statement of the applicant's financial need, and an
indication of the level of financial support, if any, that is offered by
the applicant's institution or employer; (3) the names and phone numbers
of two professional or academic references.
Each scholarship will cover conference and workshop registration, and
will include a cash award of $250, which will be presented during the
meeting in Long Beach. The recipients must attend the Long Beach
meeting in order to receive the scholarships.
