Association of Canadian Archivists' Institute 2000

ACA INSTITUTE ON APPRAISAL TO BE OFFERED AGAIN

"For me the Institute was an exhilarating experience ...."
(Bernadine Dodge, Trent University Archives)

"I would highly recommend future Institutes to other ACA members."
(Jennifer A. Mohan, British Columbia Archives)

As the archival profession faces new and more complex challenges, the
Association of Canadian Archivists has responded with a new series of
advanced level institutes on various archival issues and functions.
"Calling the Shot: Archival Appraisal in Theory and Practice", the first
Institute, held in London, Ontario in June 1999, will be offered again
from 19 to 21 June 2000 in Edmonton, just before the annual ACA
conference. Terry Cook of the Master's Programme in Archival Studies at
the University of Manitoba and Barbara Craig of the Faculty of
Information Studies at the University of Toronto will again be the
instructors for this Institute.

This Institute explores in depth the critical keep/destroy
decision-making process of appraisal -- the ideas behind it and the
strategies, methodologies, and criteria for best doing it with
institutional and personal archives. The Institute will bring you up to
date on the new tools and approaches archives are developing in the
appraisal process. To see what is in store for participants, see the
September 1999 issue of the ACA Bulletin (p.1) for reports on last year's
Institute by two participants, Bernadine Dodge and Jennifer A. Mohan.

Plan now to attend!
