Local Government Records Archivist Position - Columbus, OH



Position Announcement

The Ohio Historical Society has the following position open:

Local Government Records Archivist
Archives/Library

Position Scope: Provides technical advice and assistant to local government
entities on records management and archival issues including electronic
records. Appraises, accessions, and assists in the processing of local
government records of enduring historical value. Revises the LGR manuals as
necessary. Signs off on, files, and keeps track of LGR records schedules and
correspondence.



Primary Responsibilities:
Advice and assistance to local government entities on records management and
archival issues
Appraisal, accessioning and processing of local government records of
enduring historical value
Revises LGR Manuals
Signs off on and files LGR record schedules
Contribute/participate in appropriate professional publications, seminars,
or conferences
Perform other duties as may be required for the efficient operation of the
Archives Library


Typical Working Conditions:
Within office or Library space with overhead lighting and industrial HVAC
air circulation system.


Typical Physical Demands:
The ability to lift, carry, reach, and retrieve items weighing up to forty
pounds from a height of six feet. The ability to operate library carts. The
ability to perform repetitive keyboard tasks. May require standing and
movement within a confined area for periods up to four hours.


Relationships:
Internal - supervises Archival Research Assistant as necessary
External - Works with state agencies, local government entities and the
public on a routine basis

Qualifications:
Education - Master's Degree in History, Library Science or related field.
Experience - two years in an archival or manuscripts repository at a
professional level; graduate intern experience may substitute for one year
professional experience.
Skills - working knowledge of databases management systems, word processing
programs, Windows 95 and the Internet. Knowledge of American and Ohio
history, and records management procedures. Ability to follow complex
written or oral instructions, to work independently, to pay attention to
detail while completing repetitive tasks, to manage time effectively, to
promptly report problems to superiors, to use common office equipment, and
to make prudent decisions independently.
