Cataloger and Archives Technician, Photography Department, Mystic Seaport:
Temporary (14 months) position. 35 hours per week. Responsibilities include
the cataloging of the Contemporary Photo Archive, maintaining all negatives
and slide file library, assisting researchers, and performing routine
office functions including filing, answering telephones, and answering
questions from the staff and general public. Qualifications include a
background in museum cataloging and library procedures, Bachelors degree
and actively participating in an MLS or Information Science program
preferably. Must have working knowledge of Windows and Macintosh operating
systems and web technology with strong typing skills and legible handwriting.

IMLS Cataloger, Photography Department, Mystic Seaport: Temporary, 14 month
grant-funded position, 35 hours per week. Position to participate in
IMLS-funded collaborative project, Connecticut History Online, designed to
create a web site housing 15,000 Connecticut graphics and related student
resource page. The position will work as part of a team with Mystic Seaport
staff and catalogers from the Connecticut Historical Society and the Thomas
J. Dodd Research Center at UCONN. Each Cataloger will each be responsible
for creating 5,000 records and coordinating activities with fellow
catalogers and other project staff/consultants. Qualifications include a
Bachelors degree with experience in library cataloging in an automated
environment; familiarity with authority control and thesauri structure and
use. Must possess strong detail orientation, ability to work to meet
deadlines while maintaining quality controls. Preferred credentials are an
MLS from an ALA accredited Library school; 2 years of cataloging
experience; training or familiarity with CT. or New England history;
experience in working with historical photographs and/or graphic images;
experience in creating Dublin Core cataloging records; and experience in
working in an automated environment using Access and OCLC data.
