Publications in Archives

This message is a cross-posting between EXLIBRIS and ARCHIVES.

In a college library special collections setting, we are revisiting our
practice of acquiring publications (NOT reprints, though) authored by
our faculty, staff and alums and placing these works in a "College
Authors" collection. For those of you who must manage similar
collections, could you comment on special methods that you have devised
both to control these items bibliographically and to provide for useful
"browse" OPAC retrieval?

The only givens are: the collection exists; each work is fully cataloged
in the library online catalog; each call no. is prefixed with the term
"College."

So far, we've come up with:
1. a generic collection uniform title (USMARC 793) or collection
corporate author (USMARC 710) approach, both of which provide for a
search result in our online system (Innovative) arrayed alphabetically
by title--not a very useful result!
2. a "see also Bowdoin Authors" reference for all of the authors
represented in the collection, which provides a pleasant author display
but is extremely inelegant and unwieldy from a catalog maintenance
perspective.

If you'll respond to me privately, I'll be glad to summarize results for
the listerv at large.

Thanks.
