Another Missing old film

Greetings:

On the 3-1-2000 Digest contents there was the message title "Missing old film." The actual message was not there, as was the case for many other items on that list of contents--maybe the virus several messages spoke of got them! But it gave me the idea of putting out a request regarding an old film made in Indiana for the Centennial Celebration of 1916. In his recent book Passing the Torch, Indiana Senator James Merritt said that no copy is available because the type of film that was used at the time self-destructed over the years.

However, here at the Indiana State Archives we have two copies of the book, Suggestive Plans: Indiana's Centennial Celebration of 1916 written in 1912, and inside one of them is the Library Stamp of the Free Public Library Jersey City, N.J. Thus it seems possible that one or more copies of that Centennial film may have gotten out of state and been kept in better condition than those Senator Merritt was aware of. A very slim possibility, but a possibility. If anyone knows of a usable copy [especially one that would be allowed to be very carefully duplicated (probably down at IU) and returned] that would certainly be a proud moment of heritage for Indiana. Please contact Senator Merritt c/o Mmillike@iga.state.in.us (or myself).

Thank you all for your kind attention to this request.

Geof Scott
