Applications are being invited for the position of Summer Graduate Student
Intern at the Joint
Archives of Holland at Hope College in Holland, Michigan.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  The successful candidate will be responsible for processing
a significant
portion of the Guy A. Vander Jagt Congressional Papers under the supervision
of the Collections
Archivist.  This will include assisting in developing and implementing
processing priorities,
processing, computer cataloging, continued development of a finding aid,
assistance with public
reference, and other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:  One year in a graduate program for an MLS or MA in History,
with a
specialized archival training component must be completed.  Recent graduates
may also apply,
however successful candidates must commit to completing the internship term.
Experience and course
work focusing on archival processing and cataloging are required as are strong
interpersonal, oral, and
writing skills.  Ability to work as part of a team is essential.

ENVIRONMENT:  Hope College, a four-year liberal arts college affiliated with
the Reformed Church
in America, has an enrollment of 2,900 (2,750 FTE) students and is located
five miles from Lake
Michigan.  The Joint Archives of Holland is a leading repository in an
award-winning building.  The
archives also cares for and provides contractual archival services to the
Holland Historical Trust
(Holland Museum), Western Theological Seminary, and other institutions that
contract for archival
care of their collections.  The archives currently manages approximately 6,000
lf of material.

SALARY:  The stipend for this position is $4,000 payable in installments
throughout the summer.
Housing on campus will be provided during the term of the appointment.
Successful candidates must
commit to working 40 hours per week (exclusive of major holidays) from May 15
to August 18,
2000. Two personal days are also included.
