one system does all

I know we've had similar questions on the listserve, but since things are
changing so fast, we would like to ask this question again. Please respond
to Dan Kaplan (contact information below).

As an archive, museum, and library (with aspirations to put digitized
source documents on-line), we're looking for an automation system that does
it all!
We're finding that collections management software is good for visual
objects but weak in handling books. On the other hand, the library
automation systems, which are good for books, seem to only have a module
for images (paintings, photos, letters, 3-D objects, etc), if they even
have that.
If anyone does use the book component of a collection management software
system, do you import records from OCLC? (We do not yet have OCLC, but hope
to in the near future). Do you require MARC format for both books and
one-of-a-kind items?
Right now we have separate (and somewhat antiquated) databases for books,
manuscripts, photographs, and objects, but is it possible to have only one
system? If you have experience or advice, please contact
