Re: A Possible Opportunity to consider

Hello,

Another interesting and unique opportunity is to would be to learn how to
use the approach developed by Allen
Schwartz's team of teachers. This group of teachers, who were concerned with
history, attempted to get students involved in 'their' history by using
'local' documents - including life histories, working within a large
dataset. The expectation was that students would start to see the
relationship between 'their' history and that of the 'wider world'. This
group of teachers eventually built "Chicago 1919".

Here are the WebPages for the Chicago Metro History Project which Allen
Schwartz has been involved in:

http://www.lib.uchicago.edu/CUIP-DL/ecuip/social/chi1919/index.html
Ok, now the question is just how can any one start to get involved or learn
how to do this? Or do it have to be in history?

Well, the answer is pretty easy. No, the subject doesn't have to be history
and yes Allen is teaching at a course in the Fall of this year at LWSIAS
entitled:

SPECIAL TOPIC 207: THE CHALLENGE TO CREATIVITY IN TEACHING : LEARNING FROM
THE EXPERIENCE OF 'CHICAGO 1919'

If you wish to learn more about this course and be able to have the
opportunity to learn these skills or just learn more about these courses
just email me or see the following url:
