Job opening in Lexington, MA



MIT Lincoln Laboratory has pioneered in advanced electronics
since its origin in 1951 as a Federally Funded Research and
Development Center of the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology.  In readiness for its 50th anniversary, the
Laboratory has launched a significant project to process and
make accessible its archival collection.  We need an
energetic processing archivist to join our team.

Position Available:
Processing Archivist (1 year, full-time, subcontractor
position)
MIT Lincoln Laboratory, Lexington, MA

Responsibilities:
Process MIT Lincoln Laboratory's archival collection, by
performing the following tasks:
· Appraise, arrange, and describe historical documents;
· Research Laboratory history;
· Prepare finding aids;
· Apply basic preservation;
· Support and participate in other work of the department as
assigned.

Qualifications:
· Bachelors' degree or higher
· Processing experience in archives
· Excellent computer, writing and oral communication, and
time management skills
· Ability to work independently and with supervisors, peers
and other staff
· Ability to obtain DoD Security Clearance (normal
procedures, see below)
· SECURITY:  Personnel working at the Laboratory are
required to have a DoD Security Clearance to the SECRET
level.  In some instances personnel cleared CONFIDENTIAL may
work at the Laboratory pending the issuance of further
clearance.  Proposals should indicate the clearance status
of each person proposed.  All personnel are required to have
United States Citizenship.

Preferred/Desired:
· 1-2 years processing experience in archives
· Graduate degree in library science, history of science, or
archives-related
field
· Knowledge of MARC format and online catalogues
· Familiarity with HTML, web authoring tools
· Strong organizational and indexing skills
· Experience handling classified documentation

Degree candidates for Summer 2000 will be considered.
