Ohio Memory Content Editors (2)
Ohio Historical Society

Job Description:
These are professional positions in the Archives/Library Division. There are
two positions available; each is a two-year, contract position. The Ohio
Memory Content Editors are responsible for reviewing and assessing the
significance of historical materials submitted for inclusion in the Ohio
Memory online scrapbook, which will provide access to important historical
materials commemorating Ohio's two hundred years of statehood. The primary
goal of the Content Editors will be to ensure that the scrapbook covers the
broadest possible range of subjects, geographic areas, time periods, types
of materials.

Primary Responsibilities:
Appraise historical materials submitted for inclusion in the online
scrapbook.
Determine areas of interest not documented in the materials submitted for
inclusion and identify collections that fill those gaps.
Contribute to the design and development of the project web site.
Advise and instruct project participants.
Perform other duties as needed.

Typical Working Conditions:
A majority of the work in this position is performed in an office
environment; some takes place in library stack and storage areas.  Some
travel is required.

Typical Physical Demands:
This position requires prolonged sitting, chiefly at a computer terminal,
and some bending, stooping and stretching.  Also required on occasion is the
moving of boxes weighing up to fifty pounds.

Relationships:
Internal: Reports to the Head of the Special Projects Department and the
Ohio Memory Project Manager; works closely with the other Ohio Memory
Content Editor, Scanning Technicians and staff of the Local History Office.
External:  Works with project partners and participating cultural heritage
repositories.

Qualifications:
Education: Master's degree in History, Library or Information Science or a
related discipline preferred.
Experience: A minimum of one year's experience working with historical
materials in a library, archives or museum.
Essential knowledge, abilities and skills:
- Strong organizational and research skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Strong working knowledge of Ohio and United States history.
- Experience using digitization hardware and software.
- Familiarity with the principles and practices of archives and/or museum
administration, information management and web design.
- Proficiency with common office software.

Salary:
Range 29--$27,144-$39,374
