Re: Again

This is a compilation of processing rates given in previous Archives List
discussions; I make no claims about the accuracy.

Summary from "What is backlog is prologue" by Abraham, Balzarini, and Frantilla.
 (8/6/99 List message)
- a 20 foot accession will require approximately 25 weeks of a processor's time.
"Archival records will be calculated at a rate approaching 16 weeks, while
manuscripts would more probably require about 36 weeks."

I have two messages that have more in them than I want to re-type.

1) August 26, 1994 message from Lyndon Hart, processing times at Library of
Virginia, based on trial runs and Lyches article in MIDWESTERN ARCHIVIST, Vo. 7,
No. 1, 1982. This distinguishes between times required for different types of
records (Pre-1800 Personal Papers, Post-1900 Business, etc.)

2) March 22, 1994 message from Robert Shuster on archival cataloguing using MARC
AMC. His bottom line is between 3.8 and 8 hours/worksheet.

If you search, but can't find the messages in the List Archives, I could fax the
messages to you.
