Project Archivist
Smith College is currently searching for an experienced and energetic Project Archivist to survey, appraise, preserve, arrange and describe records of Smith College held in the College Archives, which document the history of Smith College from its founding in 1871 to the present. The successful candidate will perform reference duties related to the holding of the Archives; supervise student assistants, produce finding aids and
bibliographic records. Starting salary for this two-year temporary appointment is $28,000 plus benefits.
Requirements: M.A. in history or other relevant discipline and/or MLS from an ALA-accredited library school plus graduate training in archival and records management theory and practice. Supervisory experience and demonstrated experience processing large collections (30+ linear feet)--organizational records is preferred. Familiarity with the MARC- AMC format, and microcomputer applications such as database entry, word processing, and scanning. Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to lift and carry 40lbs. Knowledge of 20th century American history, the history of higher education, and women's history is a plus.
