Hourly Salary Range $17.11 -  $21.72

WHO MAY APPLY:  This position is open concurrently to King County Career
Service employees and to the general public.  Preference is given to King
County Career Service employees who apply.

FORMS AND MATERIALS REQUIRED:  A King County application form, resume and
letter of interest detailing your background and describing how you meet or
exceed the requirements are required.

WORK LOCATION:  1215 East Fir Street, Seattle, WA 98122

WORK SCHEDULE:  35-hour week; Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:  The responsibilities of this position include
providing centralized services for the maintenance, protection and
reference of public records and historical information.  Responsibilities
also include developing archives and records management procedures and
functions to ensure compliance with public records regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
 Supervise subordinate staff, make work assignments and participate in
hiring process.
 Develop and administer collection policy and appraise King County records
for historical significance.
 Develop and administer appraisal, conservation and preservation policies
and procedures.
 Evaluate archives services and products, market and promote programs and
services
 Research, recommend and implement information technology.
 Initiate, develop and conduct training and education.
 Prepare status and progress reports.  Evaluate services and results.
 Assist in budget proposals and management of resources.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Must have an M.A. in history or an ALA-accredited Masters
in Library Science with formal course work in archives administration.
Demonstrated supervisory experience; strong verbal and writing skills;
knowledge of basic archival theory, terminology, methods and accepted
current practices as applied to processing, preservation and reference
service; archival database management skills including ACCESS;
bibliographic records experience, strong organizational skills and ability
to manage diverse projects preferred.  Must be able to lift and carry a
forty-pound box, climb a ladder to retrieve materials, and work in varied
environmental conditions that contain dust, mold and dampness.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:  Knowledge of public records management and use;
HTML or EAD coding and Web applications highly desirable.
