labels

All,

A brief intro first. I'm a recent graduate with a masters in history with a
concentration in public history, archives. A little over a month ago I became
employed as the Records Manager/Archivist for the National Wildlife Research
Center in Fort Collins, CO. Now the background info and question from the
newbie archivist. In the archives, file folders have been labeled using a basic
sticky backed office supply label, about 1 and a half by 4". The file folders,
numbered and on a catalog, house unpublished material mainly from the 60's-80's
authored by staff researchers/biologists. Many of the labels were put on in the
early 90's and are peeling away from the folders, while many others look ready
to do so any minute. Are there labels out there that will last longer or are
all going to eventually do this? What about the archival labels from a place
such as Light Impressions? What methods have others used to successfully label
such things? You may reply on or off the list. Thanks for your time and help!
