Paper Conservation Technician Position (Washington, DC)

Paper Conservation Technician
National Anthropological Archives
National Museum of Natural History
Smithsonian Institution

Through funding from the Getty Grant Program in conjunction with Save
America's Treasures, the National Anthropological Archives is pleased to
announce an immediate opening for a technician in the paper conservation
laboratory.  The position will be a part of the Artwork Preservation
Project, a multi-faceted effort to ensure the preservation and enhance the
accessibility of a collection of nearly 20,000 works of art on paper.  The
collection is particularly strong in Native American drawings, many of which
are considered national treasures.

Duties will include lab maintenance, treatment under the direction and
supervision of conservation staff, rehousing and working with the Archives
staff to facilitate research access to the collection.  The primary work
location is the Museum Support Center in Suitland, MD.  Preference will be
given to candidates with previous conservation experience.  A bachelors
degree is required.

This is a full-time one year position.
Salary: $23,000 (GS-5)
