Re: black marker on microfilm

ANSI/AIIM IT9.1 "Processed Silver-Gelatin Type Black-and-White Film -
Specifications for Stability" and ANSI/AIIM IT9.2 "Photographic Processed
Films, Plates and Papers - Filing Enclosures and Storage Containers" give
the requirements for microfilm life expectancy, and what one should and
should not do to achieve that expectancy. Neither standard specifically
states that magic marker cannot be used on film. However, the chemicals
used in the manufacture of magic marker may be detrimental to the film
images if they act or react in any manner warned against in the standards
(for instance - off-gasing of certain harmful fumes).

Does anyone know where it is written in the AIIM/ANIS standards that you can
not use a black magic marker on microfilm to make blip marks? I know there
was a discussion on this subject earlier, however I can not find it in the
archives.
