Re: Moveable shelving

At the university archive where I work part-time, we used professional
movers accustomed to dealing with library collections. In our case, we did
not need them to put things back in order (we used the opportunity to create
some order), but they were prepared to work under "back in order"
stipulations if we desired. They provided large moving carts on which they
packed the collection, trundled them all to a temporary storage area, and
left the carts until we had completed the move back (several weeks). One of
the librarians commented that they had once used a different moving company
to save money but concluded little, if anything, was saved because library
staff had more to do afterwards in reshelving to the proper locations. They
returned to the company experienced in library moves thereafter. My advice
is to choose your movers wisely.
