NYC ART Meeting Notice: Central Park Conservancy

Join us for a reception on Thursday April 27 in the Central Park Conservatory Garden
followed by our monthly meeting. Please follow the R.S.V.P. instructions at end of notice.

APRIL 2000 MEETING NOTICE

Sara Cedar Miller, Historian, Photographer and Archivist of the Central Park
Conservancy will give a slide presentation of the History of Central Park,
the Central Park Conservancy and its archives.

The Central Park Conservancy is a non-profit organization, founded in 1980.
It manages and restores Central Park in partnership with the New York City
Department of Parks and Recreation. The Conservancy's holdings include some
historic material from the Nineteenth and early Twentieth centuries, but the
bulk of the material is the photographs, maps, illustrative renderings,
historic preservation materials, horticultural planting plans and
administrative papers detailing the restoration and management of the Park.
This will be the first time that the archives have been presented to a body
of professional archivists.

Sara Cedar Miller received a BA in political science from Syracuse
University in 1966, a MA in art history from Hunter College in 1973,
post-masters work in art history at The Institute of Fine Arts at NYU from
1970 to 1974, and an M.F.A. in photography from Pratt Institute in 1983.
She was a fine arts photographer with her art work published in 1985 in a
limited edition book, funded by the National Endowment for the Arts. She
became the Photographer of Central Park in 1984 and the Historian in 1989.
She also holds the title of Archivist, though is not professionally trained
in the field. She is also privately writing a book on Central Park.
