From: "Jill Jackson" <JJackson@UTSA.EDU>, on 00-05-02 12:21:

The position of archivist at the University of Texas in San Antonio will be
available soon . Effective June 1, 2000, I will be leaving UTSA and
assuming a new position as the archivist at the Mexican American Cultural
Center, a multicultural institute for leadership, language, and pastoral
education in San Antonio.

Though I am leaving UTSA, I am interested in seeing its archives program
continue to flourish, thus I am offering a 'teaser' to those of you who have
been in the archival field for a little while and are looking for a new
place to test your skills.

The UTSA position offers a lot of potential for growing and nurturing a
relatively young, but expanding archives program. In the past five years
the UTSA archives has expanded from sixteen collections to nearly 100
collections; renovated and moved into a spacious facility of approximately
7,000 square feet; installed new shelving which is less than 75% full;
expanded from a permanent staff of one to three, with an additional staff
person funded through an NHPRC grant; and established a sound administrative
structure. The growth and enhancement of the archives has not only been
supported and aided by the Library administration, but also the faculty, the
development office, and members of the community. Opportunities for
networking with faculty, grant writing, developing outreach programs,
soliciting collections, and increasing electronic access to materials
abound.

I hope I have piqued your interest. The job should be advertised this
month, with a good salary in the mid to upper 30s.
