BISMARCK, N.D. - Republicans say North Dakota Insurance Commissioner Glenn
Pomeroy's office violated open records laws recently when his staff asked
questions of a high school volunteer who was sent to obtain copies of
Pomeroy's travel records

But Pomeroy said the incident is merely a misunderstanding and no one on his
staff meant to intimidate the Bismarck high school student. Any questions
posed to the student were designed to make sure she got the right
information and that the information would be ready to pick up when she
wanted it, said Jodee Buhr, one of the Insurance Department employees who
talked to the student, Amanda Lynch.

FAIRBANKS - If Sen. Ted Stevens' papers are stored at the University of
Alaska Anchorage, it could mean the state's historical archive will be split
between Anchorage and Fairbanks.
Stevens, 76, is trying to raise $10 million in private funds to build a wing
to the new $30 million UAA public policy library for his papers.

Three specialists who deal with historical archives agree that Wally Ewing's
collection of Civil War letters is something to be treasured.
"We would love to have something like that," said Charlie Cusack, a
reference technician with the State Archives of Michigan. "I would consider
it extremely interesting. If the people who wrote the letters are identified
and the letters are in good condition, it's a great find. It only goes up in
historical value if there are photographs of the people and authenticated
service records."

FORT SILL -- Only a privileged few have seen the treasure of historical
riches stored in the belly of Fort Sill's archives.
Former commanding generals, state legislators, visiting dignitaries,
governors and a handful of dedicated museum staff members are among those on
the short list of lucky eyewitnesses.
For behind padlocked doors, where sunlight is scarce, sit thousands of rare
artifacts miraculously plucked from the annals of America's western
frontier.
