NOTICE OF VACANCY
Special Materials Cataloging Coordinator

POSITION: Special Materials Cataloging Coordinator

RANK: Assistant Professor

APPOINTMENT CONDITIONS: Full-time, 12-month, Faculty status appointment.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Coordinates cataloging of special materials in all
formats.  Plans cataloging projects with Special Collections Department to
improve access to archives, manuscripts and archival films. Oversees
cataloging of visual materials, sound recordings, maps, and direct access
computer files.  Participates in the cataloging of remote access electronic
resources.   Also catalogs music scores, microforms, and rare books as needs
arise.  Assures that user needs for special materials are met by
collaborating with public services and information technology staff on
online catalog access issues.  Supervises support staff in copy cataloging
of special formats, provides quality control for special materials
cataloging, and takes initiative to document procedures and manage
workflows.

Prepares original bibliographic records and enhances complex member copy
records in English and modern foreign languages for special materials in all
subjects following AACR2 and OCLC input standards. Prepares original
authority records and enhances existing records to meet local and NACO
standards.

Maintains awareness of new developments in the cataloging field and
participates with the faculty cataloging team to investigate, plan and
develop services and access to new information resources.

Reports to the Head of the Serials & Monographs Original Cataloging
Department.  The department is responsible for authority control, serials
cataloging, electronic resources cataloging, original monographs cataloging
and special materials in all formats.

Engages in scholarship appropriate to faculty appointment.

QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED:  ALA-accredited MLS degree. Ability to meet promotion and tenure
requirements.  Experience or coursework in cataloging; knowledge of AACR2
and LC classification; subject headings and at least two non-book MARC
formats; knowledge of current online library systems; and reading knowledge
of at least one modern language other than English. Ability to function in a
collaborative, service-oriented environment and flexibility in adapting to
change.  Effective communication skills.
PREFERRED: Supervisory experience; and/or experience in cataloging archival
materials, films, or computer files.  Experience with OCLC or RLIN
cataloging systems.

SALARY: $31,000 - 34,000, depending upon qualifications

BENEFITS: TIAA/CREF, excellent group medical, dental and life insurance, 24
working days vacation and 18 days sick leave per fiscal year.
