Bialy photo: thanks to all
Thanks to everyone who wrote with suggestions on how to
find a bialy bakery photo. My patron gave me permission to post her
name: it's Mimi Sheraton, who will be publishing a book called "The Bialy
Eaters: The Story of a Bread and a Lost World" in September.
Some great places to look for photos were suggested, including:
Online photo archives: Corbis, AP (which charges for a search)
Polish museums and cultural insitutions in America
Libraries: American Jewish Archives; New York Public Library; Library of
Congress
Roman Vishniac's family (photographer)
Warsaw State Archives
--and others
Ms. Sheraton had tried most of these already, but there were a couple of
places she hadn't checked. She is very appreciative of the assistance, and
asked me to convey her thanks to the list.
Thanks from me too--
