Re: Old Archival Boxes

You should definitely replace your old boxes with new acid-free ones from
the Hollinger Corp. If you must continue to use the wooden shelves, put down some shelf paper first. Good luck!

Listserv members,
I have records in dusty, old archival boxes on wooden shelves. Most
of them are actually adhering to the surface of the shelves and have to be
coaxed out by stages.
Question: Would you say these boxes are no longer proper storage
for historical documents? Can they be retained at all or are they
compromised entirely?
I pretty much think they should go, but need colleague support, here
in my yet to be constructed historical documents library (just me, my
computer & empty [limited] space).

thanks,
Sharon (Do I really want to be the first County archivist, ever?)Pullen
