Project Archivist

American Antiquarian Society / Bibliographical Society of America

The American Antiquarian Society (AAS) seeks a temporary, part-time
archivist to process the papers of the Bibliographical Society of America
housed at AAS.  The collection consists of approximately 45 linear feet of
material.  The project includes sorting, arranging and description, and
creation of a finding aid.  The project archivist reports to the curator of
manuscripts.  20 hrs/week for approximately 12 weeks; schedule flexible.
Salary commensurate with experience and background.

Available: September 1, 2000

Closing date: when filled

Required qualifications: required: experience processing, arranging, and
describing archival collections; basic keyboard and computer skills (Windows
and Microsoft Word); good writing skills.  May be required to lift boxes
weighing up to 40 pounds.

Preferred qualifications: advanced degree in library/information science,
archival management, or history.


The Bibliographical Society of America was organized in 1904 and
incorporated in 1927.  Its principal objectives are to promote
bibliographical research and to issue bibliographical publications.

The American Antiquarian Society is an independent research library founded
in 1812 in Worcester, Massachusetts.  The Society maintains a research
library of American history and culture documenting the life of America's
people from the colonial era through the Civil War and Reconstruction.
Collections include books, pamphlets, newspapers, periodicals, broadsides,
manuscripts, music, children's literature, graphic arts, genealogy and local
histories.
