Re: lying with pixels



In all fairness to most photographers who have worked in the darkroom, a
certain amount of manipulation is required in the enlargement of prints
(i.e. contrast , burning in, retouching blemishes, etc.) which in the
artist's eye is necessary.  So we're already altering the original.  That
has always figured in the creative process.

As Alfred Stieglitz told Arnold Newman " I don't care what you did or how
you did it,  I'm only interested in the finished picture."

It hurts to see the current (and past) manipulation, but where does fact
art end and art begin? ( Not to mention out and out lying).  Too heavy a
philosophical question for my simple mind.    Broken hearted over Capa's
picture though.
