autoreply disadvantages

I understand that many modern crooks join listservs, monitor them carefully
and then rob those persons who have the auto reply on, figuring that they
must be gone for the weekend.

That's good enough reason not to use autoreply.

As a frequent poster (probably too frequently in some people's minds)
the autoreply "out of office" is especially irritating, but I hit the
delete button, grit my teeth and bite my tongue. This is true moreso
now that I am on the road more and sometimes can't send commands to
the listservs (note the plurarl). There is nothing like coming back
into the office to see several hundred messages waiting. Thank
goodness for Outlook's folder system and rules wizard.

Like Nina I have experienced similar problems when the IT department
starts to change things around. Late last year, early this year we
switched to mindspring. That change created untold havoc on recmgmt
resulting in that I could not post from my office account or even
receive postings. Enormously embarassing.

I understand the use of the autoreply feature and believe that it can
be a real help/assistance, but when you receive in the double digits
egad. finally try managing two email accounts for several listservs!
