Re: Patriot pile on

Sheri, keep your niece interested in history. It's not only amazing; it's
frightening how little kids (and adults) know about history.

Amen!!!! Thank you Bonnie for your statement. I am much like you. If it
wasn't for books or movies about historical subjects, like the Patriot, I
would be a civil engineer right now.

In addition, my twelve year old niece was going to see The Patriot this
weekend. Later, she asked questions about the American Revolution and what
lead up to it. (It is amazing how little most kids know about history.)
I
say if my niece, for only half an hour forgot about boys and make-up to ask
serious questions about history, then all is not lost in Hollywood or else
where.

I think I'll come out of my corner and actually respond. It was
movies and books
such as the Patriot that got me interested in history and
archiving
in the first
place. If it wasn't for movies like this I would likely not have
taken the time
to learn the truth, get a degree in history, a job as a manuscript
specialist,
and go on for my masters. So, even though these movies nad such
aare
inaccurate,
they do influence some for hte good.
