Re: Catalina Island / Grauman's Chinese Theater

On the other hand, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Herrick
Library (http://www.oscars.org/cmps/mhl/index2.html) is very likely to have
material on the Chinese.

The original query included the statement "I am trying to locate a shot of
John Gabriel Beckman who designed Grauman's Chinese Theater." We have in
our files an undated souvenir booklet by Terry Helgesen which says that the
Chinese Theatre was designed by Raymond Kennedy, under contract with the
builders, Meyer and Holler. The booklet includes a small halftone photo of
him, but since it's uncredited and the booklet has no publisher statement,
I'm not sure how you would get a clearance. (Our collection's purpose is for
design background research and we are expressly forbidden to deal with
clearance issues anyway.)

We also have a fat folder on Catalina Island (the Casino isn't separated
out, so I can't tell how much material there is without doing a search at
$70/hour). You might also try the Catalina Island Historical Society: P. O.
Box 366 Avalon, CA 90704 (they appear not to have their own
website--address from L.A. Conservancy
http://www.laconservancy.org/preservation/organizations.shtml).
