issues of email authenticity on Deja.Com



As many messages posted to mailing lists are automatically "archived" to
the Web through various services, I think questions about the
trustworthiness of those services as recordkeeping systems will become
increasingly important.

Here's a recent discussion of Deja.Com's automatic insertion of links
into messages based on the appearance of particular words (mostly
product names) within those messages.

I can see this sort of thing as being quite problematic for future
research, since so much personal correspondence may only reside in such
places, not being retained over time by their creators or any more
established archival institutions.

Anybody got an opinion on this one?
