Re: Position opening in Seattle



Didn't see it.  Intriguing: last time it was open, it was only a 35 hr job and at a lower rate.  At least, I think it's the same job.  Hmm.  I'll have to read it more closely.

ARCHIVIST/HEAD LIBRARIAN [search re-opened].  King County (Washington)
Department of Information and Administrative Services, Records and
Elections Division. Job Announcement No.: 00ES283.  Hourly Rate Range:
$21.45 - $27.29.
CLOSE: 8/18/00

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS: The responsibilities of this position include
providing centralized services for the maintenance, protection and
reference of public records and historical information. Responsibilities
also include developing archives and records management procedures and
functions to ensure compliance with public records regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:  Supervise subordinate staff, make work assignments and
participate in hiring process. Develop and administer collection policy and
appraise King County records for historical significance. Develop and
administer appraisal, conservation and preservation policies and
procedures. Evaluate archives services and products, market and promote
programs and services. Research, recommend and implement information
technology. Initiate, develop and conduct training and education. Prepare
status and progress reports. Evaluate services and results. Assist in
budget proposals and management of resources.

QUALIFICATIONS: Must have an M.A. in history or an ALA-accredited Masters
in Library Science with formal course work in archives administration.
Demonstrated supervisory experience; strong verbal and writing skills;
knowledge of basic archival theory, terminology, methods and accepted
current practices as applied to processing, preservation and reference
service; archival database management skills including ACCESS;
bibliographic records experience, strong organizational skills and ability
to manage diverse projects preferred. Must be able to lift and carry a
forty-pound box, climb a ladder to retrieve materials, and work in varied
environmental conditions that contain dust, mold and dampness. Desirable
Qualifications: Knowledge of public records management and use; HTML or EAD
coding and Web applications highly desirable.

WORK SCHEDULE: This position is non-exempt from provisions of the Fair
Labor Standards Act and is overtime eligible. This is a 40-hour week;
Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. WORK LOCATION: 1215 East Fir
