Re: Job interview expenses

I never had an employer offer to pay for interview expenses or moving
expenses. I had always assumed they just didn't do that for entry-level
librarian jobs. However, my current employer did agree to doing an initial
phone interview and then a followup campus interview. This saved a lot of
time and money for money and they seemed happy with it.

Maybe some of the expenses from job hunting or moving can be written off
your taxes.

Subject: Job interview expenses

I am in the process of applying for jobs and my location on the West coast
(Portland) and the fact that many of the available jobs are on the East
coast has led me to become concerned about transportation costs for
interviews. I have a few questions for the list. How prevalent is the
practice of interviewing institutions paying for travel expenses for the
interviewee? Why or Why not? Is asking for a telephone interview an
acceptable alternative? What have your experiences been when in the job
market? I appreciate your help and consideration.
