Re: New Yorker Article

We have lots of newspaper clippings. The ones found in the bottoms of
boxes are mostly hopeless. The ones included in folders of other material
are legible and not too brittle. The ones pasted into large scrapbooks
provided by Burrelle's are in excellent condition - the color hasn't
changed much, they are still stuck firmly to the sheets, and the sheets
seem to be in good condition too. From my experience, having
newspaper-next-to-newspaper does the most damage, even if bound well. If
separated by regular paper or Burrelle-type sheets, there is far less
deterioration. But, budgets, shelf space, and staff time are huge factors
that most libraries and archives can't ignore.
