Re: New Yorker Article



I haven't had a chance to see the New Yorker article yet, although those of
us involved in the US Newspaper Program got a "heads up" on it yesterday.
Bob Harriman, the USNP Coordinator for Library of Congress said this:

"By the way, the information on the degradation of paper appearing in
the article flies in the face of all current research.  Most of you
know this all too well.  The curve does not "level out", in fact in
some cases it will increase."

So if you get people quoting Nicholson Baker at you as they insist you keep
_all_ of the original bound volumes, you can question his science -- I don't
know where Mr. Baker got it from.
