Re: Question About a Photo

Mount Sinai was very involved in early blood preservation and banking
efforts. In 1907/08, Reuben Ottenberg describe dthe inheritability of
blood types and came up with a practical system of doind compatibility
tests before transfusions. These were direct transfusions, with the
donors and recipient lying side by side. In 1915, Richard Lewisohn worked
out the minimum amount of citrate needed to keep blood from clotting once
it was out of the body, allowing for indirect transfusion and paving the
way to blood banks. In 1932, Nathan Rosenthal discoverd the cause of post
transfusion chills, making transfusion safer still. Mount Sinai established a blood bank
in 1938, the second in the country behind Cook County, and ran an active
blood donation program during the Blood for Britain program before the
U.S. entered the War.

There, have I tooted our horn enough?! What can I say, it's early; I'm
still eager today.....
