Keep in mind folks that the "kid" is appraised as having permanent value but
occupies a temporary medium will the clone hold the same retention value?

only if they appear on an approved retention schedule and they have been
properly appraised by a professional or "copyright" ownership has been
properly transferred to another individual ie marriage or the "kid" has
signed a waiver releasing you of further responsibility.
Accordingly, a proper retention period might be :
Retain until age of majority is reached or successful completion of an
undergraduate degree or gainfully employed for 1 year (with no requests for
"parental loans" during that 1 year period).
