Re: database help

Ashley,

We are using InMagic DbText database software for our collections, and
so far have been very happy with its ease and adaptability.

We have been acquiring select individual photos from various sources,
not least of which is e-Bay. But we also have a backlog of
center-generated photos (events like concerts, festivals, lectures,
field trips) and groups of manuscript photos that are being entered in
the database.

These are the fields for each of our entries:

*I.D. number (designed to indicate general format and location in the
archives)
*Accession number
*Format (of the image itself: tintype, print photo, slide, negative,
etc.)
*Title
*Collective Title (for groups of photos of the same event)
*Creator (if known)
*Dimensions (of the image itself)
*Presentation (whether mounted or framed; dimensions of the backing)
*Description
*Place (where image was produced or published, not necessarily place of
the subject)
*Publisher (name of studio or developer, if known)
*Date
*Notes
*Location (if special location in archives or buried in a manuscripts
collection)
*Subject (LOC)
*Digital file (a small, low-res jpeg image)
*Entered by (initials)
*Source

Let us know if any of these need further explanation. Other comments
welcome.
We hope this might be helpful.
