Several years ago I read a novel in which the central problem was an attempt
to recover a document of high importance from the Soviets. Why? Because the
document allegdely concerned George Washington and purportedly was his
resignation or whatever. Soviets planned to use the document to embarass the
US -- a good read. Sorry I don't know the title.

To continue with the theme. Think not of the crime involving material from
the archives, etc. but rather that the hero/heroine of the story uses their
archival/records management/research skills to solve the problem. Use your
knowledge to weave a tale.

My favorite mystery novelist is Dick Francis -- why because somehow he
manages to weave horses and horse-racing into the story even if it is
secondary to the story. one recent one novel of his involved a parliamentary
election and yet he got the nags into the story somehow. Always does it. Why
because he knows horses and horse-racing intimately. And he will be in
Virginia in two weeks time autographing his latest novel.
