Re: RAIN 09/08: Potpourri

Just for the record, at least two of the genealogy lovers who were at the conference are Archives List members, and we can vouch for the fact that it was a good conference. I was there to sign copies of my just-published book, _Long-Distance Genealogy_ (including a chapter on researching in archives long-distance--stuff like, be aware that archivists are busy, and if you write and ask them to send you everything they have on John Smith, you'll probably never hear back from them, so be specific!) And I was able to meet fellow list-member Kathy Sturdevant, who, coincidentally, also has a new book out, _Bringing Your Family History to Life Through Social History_. Even more coincidentally, both books are published by the same publisher, Betterway Books (available at major bookstores everywhere, like Barnes and Noble--if they don't have it, they can order it).

SALT LAKE CITY -- As genealogy lovers gather in downtown Salt Lake City,
figuring out which of the sessions to attend will probably be the largest
problem they experience.
The 20th annual Federation of Genealogical Societies event, "A World of
Records -- Rediscovering Old Millennial Sources with New Millennial
Techniques," continues through Saturday at the Salt Palace Convention
Center.
The conference provides visitors with the opportunity to take full advantage
of the wealth of knowledge and vast genealogical records of the LDS Family
History Library.
