Re: Old Photograph Stuck To Glass



Send it to a Conservator.

Go to <http://aic.stanford.edu> for a little basic information.

You can try shocking the glass with a spray of C02 to shrink it, in
relation to the photo.  If your too slow, the photo will cool and there
is no chance for success.  You can peal the emulsion right from the
paper, so be careful...

The long way is to humidify the photo and coax it from the glass.

Or, if the photo can stand it, and many/most can't, immerse in water to
swell the gelatin and coax from glass.  As before, you can peal the
emulsion and bryta layer from the paper.  Be careful... Or, see an
expert such as a Photography Conservator.
